The Gestalt System

noun

PSYCHOLOGY
1.  An organized whole that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts.
2.  Gestalt psychology or gestaltism is a philosophy of mind of the Berlin School of experimental psychology. Gestalt psychology is an attempt to understand the laws behind the ability to acquire and maintain meaningful perceptions in an apparently chaotic world.
Sonic Synergy is how well matched the components are in a system.  The importance of the synergy of all the components of a system can’t be underestimated.  The relationships between amplifier and speaker and between speaker and room are paramount to a synergistic system.
Often, systems are built one of two ways.  Either piece by piece over the years with deals online or sold by an incompetent sales clerk at a local Hi-Fi shop.  A speaker is often bought because of how cool it may look and an amp for the brand name.  Frequently, they don’t work well together.  Some speakers need the sauce of a high powered class a/b amp or class D amp, while others need class A single end quality to truly flesh out the recording.  At the end of the day,  mismatched components deliver compromised sound quality.  It does not matter how much money is spent on any given piece of component or speaker.  A $250,000.00 speaker will sound compromised with the wrong amp.
Over the years, I’ve discovered several extremely synergistic matches.  In my early days, I really liked the synergy between multi-driver speakers with electronic crossovers and high powered class A/B amps.  Then, I discovered the beautiful sound staging of large array electrostatic and ribbon speakers.  Mating them with high powered A/B or high quality class D amps really brought them to life.  To my ears these days, I have discovered the Holy Grail of High Fidelity.  Listening to wide-banders, high efficient hand-made full range drivers utilizing no crossover for a purity of sound and paired with single end class A amplifier feels as if the musicians are in the room with you.  A piano sounds like a piano, a drum strike sounds like a drum strike, and you can hear the string type on the guitar.  A human voice is organic and transparent, as if they are right there in the room with you.   As if that’s not enough, these speakers have superior imaging and sound staging and are also not picky with room placement.
The Gestalt System has fully matching components, including speaker wire, power conditioner and front-end gear.  When components are matched appropriately to their synergistic quality, then you will hear the recording the way it was meant to be heard.

  1. you can apply the term Gestalt to medicine as well when you combine “all the parts” of patient history, labs to equal more than the sum of individual facts. Too bad I don’t know anything about speakers! lol
