ABOUT BLACK CAT CABLE

3232_110x110@2x

All of our cables are made to order by Chris Sommovigo, personally. Please allow 1-3 weeks for shipping.

This is a multilayered cable that begins with a 6mm core of pure cotton rope sourced from Japan. This is central to the cable as a means of creating a core that is mechanically damped. Around the core is a braid of 32 bare, pure copper strands at 30 AWG each (summing to 15AWG), then an interstitial layer of braided multifilament nylon, a secondary layer of 32 braided copper wires – same as the interior layer of wire – and finally an overall braided jacket of nylon.

This is a fairly ideal geometry expressed in excellent materials that runs circles around the usual suspects!

Terminated with XOX direct-gold-plated pure copper bananas.

XOX Spade-adapters optional.

• “My first reaction to this cable was a resounding WOW! I have used many different brands of cables that were in the 3-4k range and these were just far and away the best for clarity and 3-D imaging! It is definitely a “you are there!” soundstage.
~ Guy Bombardier / Quebec, CA
 .
• “The 3202 has raised the bar high and set a new benchmark in its class. BravoIt’s an amazing cable. It doesn’t even sound like it was built at a price!”
~ Timothy N. / Singapore
.
• “… perhaps the [3202]’s greatest strength – unraveling all the information and clarifying musical lines. A congested mass becomes understandable individual players with light on them. Soundstaging is big and spacious with lots of depth.
… the effect of my Black Cat wired phono system is mesmerizing.”
~ James D. // ON, Canada
.
• ” …without doubt the best decision I have  made when buying an interconnect. If you are thinking about a new cable then in my opinion don’t hesitate as it just makes you want to play more albums than you possibly did before even right through.”
~ John S. // UK
.

• “It all works. I love these and what they do with our music. I can’t recommend these highly enough. A solid audition to those who are looking for the best, but cannot afford the multi-thousand-dollar options. A true reference cable for under $5.k” – Dave Clark, Positive Feedback

• “The Black Cat Cables 3202 and 3232 are first-class connectors that you should consider for fine tuning between high-quality components – especially when you need resolution, dynamics, precision, and control.

The speaker cable Black Cat 3232 is a real price-performance tip. If clarity and resolution are required, this connector is far ahead of the pack. I would rate the NF cable Black Cat 3202 even a class higher. With their striking openness, detail, unrestrained dynamics and precise control, the optically inconspicuous connectors also play in the top league of low-frequency cables. Again, the price seems more than fair considering the bidding.” ~ MARTIN MERTENS, Fairuadio.de

“So, thinking about Chris Sommovigo’s cables, think about them in the context of expensive, elaborate systems. That’s where they belong. As I see it the 3202 and 3232 truly deserve out RED Fingerprint.” ~ Wojciek Pacula, High Fidelity

ULTRANOVA Mk. II Speaker Cable

Starting $3,999.

SPECIAL ORDER PRODUCT: LEAD TIME = 4-8 weeks

The ULTRANOVA Mk. II started its life out as an experimental build for a closely-knit group of Black Cat friends in Asia – guys who have extraordinary taste, and who wanted more than just a taste of “Stargate” in a less expensive package. I loved the outcome so much that I decided that it was time to update Ultranova to Mk. II status!

Instead of using a pure silver ribbon, Ultranova Mk. II uses 21awg 99.999% pure silver wire that is Nami-processed to create the undulating wave form. Then InterPole™ conductors are carefully hand-run over the undulating silver, supported at the peaks of the sinusoids and, together, form a pseudo-ribbon.

This assembly of conductors is then run down the center a low-density, microporous Teflon/air tube that has a very light-gauge “Faraday Cage” style shield.

Coppertone FLATWAVE™ RCA

Starting $249

coppertone_RCA_grande.jpg

All of our cables are made to order by Chris Sommovigo, personally. Please allow 1-3 weeks for shipping.

Coppertone FLATWAVE™ RCA Interconnect:  The new conductor is a small, pure copper ribbon that we flatten in-house with a precision rolling machine. The flattened conductor is then rolled through our Airwave tooling, shaping it into a sinusoidal form so that it will remain substantially suspended in air once hand-placed within Coppertone’s thin-walled PTFE tube (thereby helping to keep capacitance low and velocity high). Our Lovecraft MINI RCAs terminate to the interconnect.

Terminated with Lovecraft MINI RCA connectors.

The Black Cat entry level Coppertone RCA interconnect and banana terminated speaker cables are simply amazing bargains.  We think they redefine the entry level high end cable price to performance ratio. ~ Fair Hedon

From a customer in Zagreb:

Good evening, To whoever might be bothered to read: I am what you – presumably – call a budget music lover. I life time vinyl collector, Detroit techno afficionado from Eastern Europe, I’ve always invested money in black wax rather than “the other stuff”. Regardless, even if when I wanted to invest in something that WhatHiFi and similar would review, or deem worth owning, it’d cost 25 records worth… Which is a no-no in my book. Plus, I am a welder in Zagreb (Croatia), so already buying records is taking food off my table, let alone accessories.

Anyways, as every person who holds their record collection dear, my dream was to provide my precious vinyl with the best possible accessories I could afford. For years, stuff like Nodost or Transparent has been a wishful thinking type of a deal for me. Watching cables cost as much as a bulk of a collection you spent years building seemed ridiculous. Anyways, Mr. Sommovigo and his products have always been there at all the festivals, all the presentations, all the you-name-it as the real, connoisseur stuff once all the hype and glamour is gone.

Well, could be, I thought, but given the fact the man sells cables at a price that exceed my yearly rent, I always thought this stuff would be something I’d always be hearing and reading about, but never touch.

Not to prolong. Today, I am a proud owner of the Black Cat speaker cable and Interconnect, the Coppertone series. I know that to you guys it might be the cheapest thing you’ve ever done, but trust me, you have finally enabled me, if even for a moment, the entrance into this “high end” world. Although I paid through the nose for it at the HD Multimedia shop, I wanted to give you all a HUGE virtual hug and a massive THANK YOU for putting out on the market something for the common man, if you so wish to put it. The cables are first league, top tier material, here’s to another few decades, and I might even move up to the more expensive ones.

Sincerely yours, Martin

From a customer in Ohio:

AWESOME CABLE!!!!  It’s earned the coveted “Eight Thumbs Up!” award.
I have 2 golden-eared audio buddies that are extremely reliable when it comes to listening and reporting exactly what they hear. My wife gets the same description.

We ALL heard the same differences when compared to my [famous cable brand redacted] that have been in place since they first came out – probably 25 years ago. As I mentioned, the [famous cables] were the highest rated interconnects at the time…but times, and cable development have moved ahead.

What differences did we hear?

In direct comparisons to the [famous cables], the Coppertones have more “air,” better transients – especially above 3khz, better defined instrument locations, and tighter bass response and decay. Better in every conceivable way, actually. I don’t even want to think what your more advanced (read expensive) cables can do …

It really is a significant improvement over my long-loved [famous cables]. I’m actually quite surprised – pleasantly, of course.

~ Dave J.

From a customer in New York City:

Hey Chris,
Just wanted to say thank you for the cables and that I hope you are enjoying a fantastic weekend.
… for now, feeding a Chord DAC direct into a pre-production LTA Ultralinear with volume control into even my woefully inefficient backup Spendors and the cables sound great, great, great (and are truly beautifully crafted).
My [famous name] and [exotic brand] cables don’t hold a candle to these. They just sound live. What you do is so appreciated.
Many thanks from a happy customer,
~ Alex

All of our cables are made to order by Chris Sommovigo, personally. Please allow 1-3 weeks for shipping.

A Matrix-32 outer shell forms the signal layer. Comprised of 32 individually-enameled pure copper strands braided into a very fine tube of counter-rotating helices around a thin-walled PTFE (“Teflon”) tube. An AERON layer (nylon/air) is deposited over the matrix conductors, and a nylon jacket is braided over this whole assembly.

A thin, enameled copper Airwave™ conductor, Nami-processed to ensure that it remains substantially suspended in the air, is run down the center of the PTFE tube.

• “Hi Chris, This email is long overdue getting to you but I’m not really good at describing cable experiences.  I tend to evaluate my system as a whole and it’s sometimes difficult for me to pinpoint what the cables are contributing.  But I do have a story for you about the 3202 interconnects you made for me.

I recently bought a Schiit SYS passive preamp simply to use as a switching device between my phono stage and my DAC.  I had the 3202 running from the passive output to my amp.  I had read somewhere that with a passive pre you want to keep the interconnect length it has to drive as short as possible, so I swapped out the 3202 and used some cheap 6 inch [name redacted] interconnects that were made by [name redcated].  Fast forward a few days and I’m listening to my system and it sounds… not good.  The treble sounds rough, the soundstage is constricted, dynamics have taken a slight hit.  My vintage 1971 Sansui amp was sounding like it was showing its age.  Then I remembered I did that cable swap a few days prior and I put the 3202 back in the chain between the passive and the amp.  Wow.  Everything I liked about my system immediately returned, smoother treble, deeper soundstage, deeper and harder hitting bass.  It was not subtle, it really sounded like a component swap.  I know a comment like that seems ridiculous but I can’t deny what I heard.  It was easily reproducible and obvious to hear.  Of course, it should be no contest between a $20 interconnect and a $600 interconnect, but as you know, there are some folks who think you will hear no difference between the two and will scream “snake oil” at anyone who claims otherwise.  Those folks need to come to my house.

Anyway, thank you for helping my system sound great.  It’s now much more “clear” to me what your cables bring to the table.

Best,
~ Matt S. / Des Moines, IA

PS – also welcome back to the USA.  Although I have to admit it was kind of cool buying cables from you in Japan.  I was playing my stereo when my sister was visiting from Japan recently. She said “it sounds like Jam Jam in here”.  Jam Jam is the name of her local Japanese jazz record bar in Osaka that she and her husband occasionally visit.  Another compliment to your cables!”

In 2010 I released the first-ever Black Cat Cable product, and it was a little 75 Ohm digital cabled named “Veloce” – it quickly gained a wonderful reputation for being a wonderful performer, and was celebrated for being something of a “sure thing” by Srajan Ebaen of 6moons.com when he said:
“ … that makes the Veloce a sure thing for all but the excessively monied. Sure things in as uncertain a sector as high-end audio are always welcome. When sure things cost only a little, they become sure things for sure.”

“At first I thought I had lost something – and then immediately after, I began to realize the extra information (detail), that the increased smoothness of your cable had initially made MORE, seem LESS. My mistake! It is magnificently musical and satisfying. A huge tonal palette, and bass I never heard before. Wow. You sure know what you are doing. I am so glad I ordered it! …  I was surprised. Seldom does a component create such a totally positive change.”   ~ Lew Wells, customer (Silverstar! 75 Mk. I)

Silverstar! 75 was the evolution of the Veloce, and had been a major underground favorite for good reason – it bested some of the most expensive SPDIF cables out there, and was a steal by comparison!
SILVERSTAR! 75 Mk. II!
The raw cable is manufactured to my specifications by a military/aerospace contractor in the USA that I’ve been doing business with since 1994, and then post-processed and terminated right here in my workshop.

Mk. II now includes a secondary (silver-plated copper shield, addition of RFI rejection material, and an overall braided jacket from multifilament nylon.

DIGIT USB is a very different take on the ordinary/mundane USB architecture that you’ll find even in some of the most expensive luxury-level USB cables available. In this instance, it provides twin 45-ohm highly precise micro-coaxial cables with real silver-plated copper-foil shielding (NOT metallized plastic mylar!) for the data lines, run within a PTFE (Teflon) tube. Power and Ground are run in a separate layer in counter-rotating helices using my Matrix-32 Interpole™ system, and then an overall jacket is woven around the whole form.
“Hi Chris Just to let you know the Digit-USB has been cooking for a couple of hundred hours now and it has made a profound impact to my music listening. I have had many high end usb cables come and go but yours is staying. Clarity, speed, black backdrop etc. all the usual cliches apply in spades here, many thanks.” ~ John Norton
